PLE and Two Questions

Man I thought that her personal learning environment was pretty neat! I think she has an excellent point that involves doing assignments on the computer on how it teaches responsibility. I think that if I were to incorporate that kind of independent learning with my future students they would love it!! She also talked a lot about research! I think that is so important that a student so young knows how to research things I mean I didn't really know how or care about researching at that age, but with technology at your fingertips it can be fun!!

I never thought about asking myself that before I go to bed "did I do better today than yesterday?" Hmmm... a lot of times I like to think I have, but I'm the type of person that can not function without doing what I need to do. I think he is right though it is what shapes us for tomorrow. And my sentence well I can't really think on the spot what my sentence is, but I'm sure it will come to me. Maybe when I'm laying in bed tonight asking myself if I did better today than yesterday! :)

Teaching someone how to use technology

I taught my fiance how to use itunes. I chose to teach him this because he is always using his i pod and he loves to download music, and instead of using frost wire, he can use a virus free program to get his music. First I taught him how to download itunes on his laptop, then i showed him all the different categories itunes has to offer, I showed him the music, the movies, the podcast ect. After that it was all history. I kind of wish now I had never showed him this because this is all he does now. If it were not for this class I would never have been able to show Devin how to use an easier and safer way of listening to the music he loves.

Interview With Mrs. Cassibry

I interviewed Mrs. Cassibry, because she use to be an elementary teacher and I love her teaching techniques. Mrs. Cassibry taught elementary school for 20 years and is now a teacher at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Some questions I asked her are:

1. Did you ever use technology in the classroom? No, not so much because back when I was teaching we did not have access to computers in the classroom as much as we do now. She said that towards the end of her teaching she actually had a computer in her classroom instead of the students going to the "computer labs" to do assignments.

2. Did you enjoy teaching? Of course I did! She said that one of the first things she learned when she started teaching is how to gain the respect from her students. She was not their "friend" she was their "educator" and they trusted her, and she believes that because of that she was liked by so many children. She mentioned a lot about being on their level.

3. Do you feel that educators now should know a lot about technology? She responded with a yes. She feels that it is important to stay up to date with the changes the world has to offer. whether it is technology or furniture lol! She knows how important technology is and she feels that if a teacher does not know about technology then she and her students will be left behind.

4. What were some of your favorite things to do in the classroom? She said her favorite subject to teach was science, and she loves arts and crafts so she would always have the students doing some kind of hands on activity involving the lesson plan for that day. She said that that was the best way for children to learn and she loved being in a learning environment.

5. If you would recommend anything to me what would it be? NEVER let them see you sweat! Children can sense just about every emotion, so never let your emotions get in the way of educating, and most important HAVE FUN with it, because it truly is a joy.

Skype Project

I think that skype is a very important tool to learn how to use. It is so neat I do not know how someone can not be fascinated with it. Skype is basically a tool used on the computer to allow you to chat with other people online except you can see who you are talking to on the other end. For my skype project, I skyped to my Aunt Toni who lives in Willowsprings, MO. The reason why I decided to use her as an example is because she is my wedding planner and we skype to each other all the time about wedding ideas and things she has put together for the wedding. I am thankful for skype, because without it I do not think it would be possible to have a wedding planner that lives so far away.

Something I have learned from EDM310

YAY! Finally we get to blog about our feelings and what we think about this class instead of blogging about assignments. Not that blogging about assignments is a bad thing, I learned a lot from them (the blog assignments) and was very happy to learn so much from them. If it were not for this class I would not know anything else about what technology has to offer except for facebook. I never knew how much technology effects schools and the students. From everything I have learned from this class, I am now confident in going into my own classroom and being "up-to-date" with all the new advances in technology. My blog is something I would have probably never learned how to do if it was not for this class so I am happy with my work and all the friends I have made on the way.

Comments For Teachers

MRS. JENNY SHE

Week 7
I have been looking at my teachers blog, and she seems to be a really awesome teacher. I hope to learn a lot from her blog.

Week 8
My teacher LOVES to twitter! On one of her posts she put up the "Twitter Song" It was so funny I enjoyed listening to it.

Week 9
Today on my teachers blog she is talking about task boards and micro-teaching. I think that task boards are a great idea. Task boards are used to keep the students attention in the classroom instead of them all doing one assignment, and getting bored to death, they have different assignments to do and they look to the task board to show them their next step. It was very interesting.

MRS. WHITE

Week 10
On my teachers blog she has a poem on Kindergarten teachers, and what you can learn from them. I thought it was really cute! A few of the learned items are "wash your hands", "Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you" , "say please and thank you", just important basics.

Week 12
On my teachers post this week she was talking about being connected in "jammies", and what that meant was that even though she did absolutely nothing over her weekend break she still managed to stay connected to the internet.

Mrs. Cassidy

Week 13
Mrs. Cassidy blogged about using a Nintendo DS in her classroom. At first I was thinking to myself hmm I wonder how well that went over, but as I read on, she had bought 6 Nintendo DS's for her students. The game she bought was a problem solving game to help her students practice their problem solving skills. She said that it turned out very well, and she made some excellent points because not only were the students practicing their problem solving, they were also learning how to share (which is really hard for a child at that age). I like the idea of using something that children would love to learn from, the only thing I wonder about is if she had any help buying all those DS's because they can get pretty pricey.

Week 14
This week her blog was titled "Representing-It's Where Their At" I really liked this blog because I think it is such a wonderful idea!! The students were to make a portfolio of their work and post it online for their parents to view she used vocaroo which is something I am familiar with to record the students reading to post on their portfolio. I think that is a great and organized way of doing things!!

THE ZAX

I love Dr. Seuss! I think this is a great way to explain to children how the world is going to change! I also loved how he showed that "pride" is not a very great trait to have!

PS 22 Landslide

OMG!! This video was so amazing! It really touched my heart! I cannot wait to show other people this. I love how EVERY student is so deeply into this and I can see how much this means to them! By far my favorite blog assignment!

DEAR KAIA

I thought this blog and video was very neat! I can't believe how much technology is changing. One of the most important things I learned from watching this is that the teacher cares so much about her and that because she know about all this technology she can impact Kaia in a positive way. The photos on the dear Kaia site were so cute! I was very impressed!

SINGING HEARTS

This was such an amazing story!
